Mathews: How To Make a Website a Valuable Asset.
Attention to Mayors of Australian Rural Communities in Crisis.
I am now in a situation where I can
relocate anywhere within Australia. I am offering my consulting
services for free to Australian Rural Communities who are experiencing
THE RURAL CRISIS.
I am not selling
anything or
wanting to make any money from anything, with this introduction of
myself. I
already have an
independent
income, and I expect my websites will make far more than sufficient
income for me, as I shall explain below. As I will also detail
below,
I am now very much identified with my websites.
I will explain the purpose of this
page. I am addressing the
Mayors and citizens of all Rural Areas in Australia. I strongly
believe that the Internet will have the most major impact on social
change ever. I believe the Internet can be the saviour of Rural
areas
in Crisis. As a member of your Community I would like to feel
worthwhile and so contributing in some way to the community. I expect
that would very much be related to my skill set.
My contribution, for which I would not
expect remuneration, could be
introductory courses to stimulate interest in the Internet and
producing people's own websites, or in some other aspect on which your
Mayor may be currently engaged, and which would be within my ability.

I have been a full time high school
teacher of Maths and a full time
tutor in Commerce at JCU, in Townsville.
As
I said above, I am very much now my websites. I have in the order of 50
websites. They have been growing in traffic, and value, for three
years at a compound rate in the order of, 10 fold per annum. [I have
been very
'lucky' to have very high Google rankings. I now understand the
reason.] I expect that rate to vastly improve in the next
year. This
is because I have added some important features and about to add
another very powerful one. That is Geo Location: determining the
location of the visitor on the basis of their IP address.
Initially
this will be only on the basis of country. This will enable me to
program my websites to have my websites serve each visitor a different
page on the basis on the country from which they access my websites..
This will be relevant for both commercial and website traffic growth
reasons.
I had done substantial programming in
my Maths studies. I am now
applying that skill to programing websites predominately with php
programming, but also some JavaScript.
The most effective outcome of that php
programming has been theHAIG Hot Topic Banner
[HTB].
You will see it, on each of my pages
as it is in the below panel but with the

Basically,
I can change the appearance of that in just one place on my website,
and it will appear on all pages of all of my 50 or so websites, and
reflect the change. I can do that even if some of my websites are
on
servers in different locations even different countries.
This has powerful consequences in
Product Launches. With Geo
Location,
I could do concurrent different Product Launches in each country, or in
just a few.
The benefit in growth of website
traffic of having the HAIG HTB is
because it is to be expected that inhabitants of different counties
will find different subjects of most interest. Using the HAIG
HTB, I
should be able to offer visitors the topic they will find more
interesting. Hence, they are likely to stay around longer on my
pages,
return at a time in the future, and maybe refer their friends to the
site. Each of these could mean more sales of products when
offered.
As there is so much SPAM and hype on
the internet, most people are
suspicious of products sold on the internet. I believe I can eke
out a
differentiation by offering only GENUINE
VALUE
PRODUCTS.
For this reason , I will assess every product that is offered on my
websites, and offer only Genuine Value Products. It may take a
while
and longer for that reputation to spread, but I believe it will be
worth it for me. Because I want to assess every product that is
sold
through my websites, I will not place AdSense Ads on my sites.
Another recent innovation I have added
to my websites are Cascading Drop Down Menus
[CDDMs]
These above, are each just a
Menu. They appear on many
pages.
If you
click on any link from any of them, you will go to a page which
includes that menu.
There are many benefits of
CDDMs. As well, I have applied php
programming to the basic CDDM code to enable me to more quickly and
easily write CDDMs and to write sub-menus to cascade from existing
CDDMs on my websites.
Benefits
of CDDMs:
The most obvious benefit of a CDDM is
that it removes the clutter of a
menu from the page. It permits me to have higher impact
descriptions,
as there are fewer descriptions at any one time which the viewer has to
consider. It
permits the Viewer to be 'interactive' to an extent.
Composing the CDDM means grouping
aspects of the topic. In
fact, it
is possible to describe the same link with different phrases, so the
viewer may find one more compelling than another. It is possible
to
place the same link/page in different and multiple sub-menus.
If desired it is possible to place
many '#anchors' relevant to
different
aspects of the topic on the one page, and effectively summarize the
page with multiple anchors, say 10 or so. Each anchor will have a
different URL. Then all of those 10 or so anchors summarizing a
page
can
be placed into a Cascading Sub-menu, so giving the visitor an
opportunity to read a summary of the page, so adding to the interactive
experience of the visitor. Because the CDDM is only text,
and not images, it consumes little bandwidth. This means that a
CDDM can be quite large: hundreds and hundreds of hyperlinks and maybe
even a thousand or more. Of course, Googlebot will follow each of
those links to conclusion, and index much of it. Google and
Googlebot are all about hyperlinks/URLs.
I believe an important point to
consider is that visitors are unlikely
to follow more than one or two links from the CDDM. Once they are
on a page, they are likely to follow the links on that page, including
links in the same or different CDDM. Applying
php programming to the basic CDDM code: [This could be the topic of a Short
Course called "Adding CDDMs to your website".]
You could see the CDDM code in total
by calling up a CDDM such as
clicking on the View drop down menu
and then clicking on "Page
Source". That CDDM could be written like that. There are so
many possibilities for errors to occur if it is written like
that.. Since there is much code
that is repeated so often, hundreds or even thousands of times, I have
extracted that into individual php programs. Those php programs of repeated
code can be viewed at http://HaigReport.com/aaaaMenu/CDDM_BuildCode/
[I have purposely left these
directories viewable by anyone so people
can benefit from an understanding of it.]
If you wished to see the small amount
of code in each, you could click
on any one of them. It would produce a plain blank page.
You could
see the code by then going to the View Drop Down Menu and then to "Page
Source" on that DDM, for eg
That whole menu has been written in a
php program, which appears in the
panel at the bottom of this email, below. I do not expect
you to
follow it all. I produce it just to show how much shorter it is
than
the full CDDM code. It could be much shorter by placing even more
of
that program into subroutines.
Of course, I have copyright on the php
adaptation of that CDDM code.
As you may gather, I have been a
'student' of many, many teachers, over
many years. I have found that I have 'learned' at varying
rates. I
have sometimes found the learning hard going. That is not because
I am
dumb. Having been a teacher, once I know a subject, I think about
how
I would teach it. [That is how I assess the teacher and the teacher's
methods.] Invariably, when I have found the instruction hard
going, I
realize that I would have taught the content very differently, and in
such a way that I would not have found it difficult to
understand.
Thus, I assess my teaching
ability/methods as being of a very high
standard.
As you may realize, I am able to speak
well in public and on a wide
range of subjects. I anticipate that I may be adding public
speaking
on the 'talk circuit' to my activities, later this year. I have a
wide
range of topics on which I can speak.
I will be interested to see the
reaction to this that I receive.
Because this does
become involved in 'technical matters', coding, you, or your Mayor, may
like to have one of your IT personnel look it over. I would
expect an
IT 'professional' to say that my code is rather untidy, [albeit it
totally effective]. I would agree that IT coders may say
that. My
response would be, to compare where I and my code is in 12 months time
compared to where they are. It is called 'time management'.
