Now as we started looking into this story we found a tweet not from the Premier's office linking to a profile of Justice Fryberg on the popular and well-known ZoomInfo website, describing his honour as:
ZoomInfo's profile which comes near the top of a Google search for the judge's full name accuses Fryberg of fraud and protecting armed robbers and gives his employment history as:
Now we should say straight up that these are false allegations and they don't come from the Premier's office.
They've been trawled up from a website called the Haig Report, which attacks a host of Queensland judges, policemen, prosecutors, priests and government officials, accusing them of all sorts of lurid things.
One look at the Haig Report and you can see it's crazy stuff.
Wild colours and even wilder accusations.
Yet ZoomInfo faithfully republishes the website's attacks on at least ten people. So why is this happening?
ZoomInfo is a big American website which claims to be relied on by some of the world's leading companies, like Google, Microsoft and Dow Jones.
It boasts profiles on 65 million people and 6 million businesses and says its information is drawn from:
AND that this information is being
But the Haig Report is certainly not credible. And its so-called 'information' on Fryberg and all these other Queensland figures has clearly never been verified, even though some of it has been up on ZoomInfo for at least 3 years.
And why is this?
Because no one at ZoomInfo actually looks at this stuff, which is dredged up by computers and algorithms that clearly are not as smart as people claim.
Similar search engines trawl up stuff for Google, which actually offers the Haig Report right near the top if you search Justice Fryberg's full name.
So ... are Google and ZoomInfo concerned about this?
Well, not so as you'd notice.
They refuse to comment on specific cases or reveal whether anyone's asked them to take down the offensive material.
But Google's online policies and principle suggest they believe it's not their problem:
So ... why hasn't the Haig Report itself been shut down?
It's been defaming police, prosecutors and judges since 2006, but has survived all efforts to take it offline.
The
man behind the website is a disabled pensioner from
Brisbane who says
he suffered brain damage from a head injury back in 1967. [EDIT: My LLB
is one of four degrees from UQ, with Maths majors in my BSc and BA
gained since 1967. This is disability discrimination by Paul Barry, as
this info is not relevant, but Barry is stating it as if it is.].
The
man has been fighting several battles in the Queensland Courts over his
house [EDIT: My 'home'
where Qld government committed an ARMED ROBBERY, 29th November,
2004, with the aim of making me homeless] and
other matters and is now listed as a vexatious litigant. [EDIT: by five of the
SIX corrupt judges detailed on HaigReport.com/, when I have an LLB;
does parasite Paul?]
He told Media Watch:
Oh
yeah? [Edit: Hmmmm!]
But police have twice seized the man's computer and camera, he says, and have done their best to get material removed from his website, as well as to stop him publishing his attacks.
Back in 2009 the police also charged the man with four counts of using the internet to menace and harass.
But the case quickly ran into trouble.
Those four criminal charges are still before a magistrate and the case is due to come back to court in eleven days time.
Perhaps there will soon be a result.
But the people whom the Haig Report is defaming are still puzzled [EDIT: How does he 'know'? Has parasite Paul communicated with these criminals whom I profile? If he has, he, could from then have been makimg himself and the ABC and NOW Ita Buttrose, accessories to these crimes.] as to what they can do to protect their reputations.
Particularly when Google and ZoomInfo are helping to spread its slurs to the rest of the world.
And here the good news is they may be helped by two landmark legal decisions from 2012.
In two separate legal actions last year Melbourne's Michael Trkulja won a total of $425,000 in damages from Google and Yahoo for republishing false allegations about him from other websites, much as Google and ZoomInfo have done with the Haig Report.
An essential element in his legal victory was that both companies had ignored his request to take down offending material.
Now,
we don't know whether any targets of the Haig Report have asked Google
and ZoomInfo to block defamatory material about them. But if they
haven't, we suggest they do so immediately. [Seems, Paul
Barry is aligning himself with criminals in "Organized Crime".
Has he communicated with any?]
And if either Google or ZoomInfo fails to respond, they may well find a big payday awaits.
ZoomInfo replied to Media Watch's questions after this program went to air. Read its response.
And as always you can find out more about all of these stories on our website and you can contact me on Twitter.
But for now that's all from us. Until next week. Goodbye.
